House System plays a vital role in a school setup. In the House the child learns and develops those essential qualities and healthy competitive spirit which equip children sufficiently enough to face life confidently.
The House provides a platform to develop his/her personality and attain the highest physical and mental development of which he/she is capable. It is in the House system that the student is taught good manners, self-reliance, cooperation, team spirit, regard for others, adaptability, a sense of duty and responsibility, a sense of belongingness and leadership qualities.
Every student who attends CIDER International School is a member of a ‘House’. The Houses are made up of students from all the grades. There may be are 4 Houses at CIDER.
At the beginning of the academic year the new first years’ are assigned to one of the four Houses. Meetings are held to know each other and to develop loyalty towards the House. House Captains/Vice Captains are nominated in the beginning of the academic year. The House Captains are responsible for organizing House teams for the wide variety of House activities that take place throughout the year. Students quickly form an allegiance to their House and a sense of fun and friendly competition pervades all the House events.
OBJECTIVES OF HOUSE SYSTEM
The objectives of adopting a House System are to:
– provide a smooth transition from home life to campus life.
– develop situations which fulfill the social and emotional needs of the children.
– help socialization of students to integrate themselves well into campus life.
– Inculcate the sense of responsibility to take his tasks in life earnestly and discharge
them well.
– prepare students to play different kinds of roles as members of a group or community.
– develop student’s personality and integrity.
– develop a spirit of healthy competition among the students.
– Inculcate the qualities of self-confidence and respect for others’ views and opinions
and the confidence to take their own decisions on issues and problems at hand.
– develop a sense of belongingness among the pupils and create a sense of desire to
live in harmony.
– inculcate in the students respect for seniors, elders, teachers and a caring attitude
towards juniors and fraternity towards all.
– learn to live, endure and enjoy together and develop a degree of sensitivity for others’
feelings and needs.
FORMATION OF HOUSES
In our school we can have Four Houses – Dragon House, Unicorn House, Phoenix House and Griffin House.
ALLOTMENT OF HOUSES
At the beginning of the academic year the new first years’ are assigned to one of the four houses.
It is not permitted to reshuffle House every year. Once a child joins a House, he/she will remain in the same House till he/she passes out of School.
CHAMPION HOUSE
Every year by the end of the academic term, points are awarded to each House for Academics, Inter House Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) and sports/games competitions (as well for all other Inter House Competitions conducted in the school) are totalled up to declare a Champion House.
The Champion Trophy is awarded to the winning House at any one of the School functions. For effective management of the House System, Principal monitors all the Inter House activities carried out in the school.
He ensures that CCA and Sports/games competitions are regularly carried out in the School based on calendar of activities planned during the beginning of academic term every year. House Master(s) will ensure that suitable Honour-boards are displayed in the School where names of meritorious children are displayed prominently.
Chairman of Senior Management Committee have effective control over all the activities planned and carried out in the School.
