According to the dictionary, ‘success’ is the accomplishment of one’s goals. I feel there is no definite definition of the goals of human beings as it varies from person to person. So the word success plays a mysterious role in our lives as everyone defines it according to their taste. The key aim may be achieving something special in life in a positive or negative manner. The rate of positive achievement is desirable but we regret when a negative minded person satisfies his evil mind by misdeeds against human or society in the name of success. However, my writing reflects the bright aspects of life which makes us as well as others happy.
Success took a different turn in the various phases of my life cycle. When I was a child if I could play the whole day and have a sumptuous meal, I thought I had achieved everything for that day. Gradually in school and college, achieving good academic results was my ultimate goal which I thought could make me reach to the highest peak of life. Then I was encircled with the common thought of earning a huge amount of money which would satisfy all of my needs.
Now as a teacher I define success in a completely different manner. I feel that a successful person is that individual who completes any task with great excellence and sincerity and earns the praise of others. I have experienced this truth by myself. I have noticed that after finishing an assignment with hard work and dedication, I have complete peace of mind. This feeling and happiness gives me the stimulation of doing something much better in the future. Another thing I have noticed that I feel like I have conquered the full world whenever my students achieve a special feat or does something beneficial for others or for the society following my teaching. The real excitement of any task is the ‘satisfaction’ we get after completing our job.
I would like to mention here two imaginary situations of our 21st century. First, there were some poor people living in a slum area. Suddenly one day, Sam, a wealthy merchant, captured the entire area claiming that it was his land. He got rid of the poor people from their only dwelling arena and decided to build a high rise building there. The needy people begged at Sam but the word mercy could not reach his heart. Sam thought he was the only successful person in the universe after accomplishing his goal.
Second, Jack, an elderly, rich scholar, wanted to do something fruitful for his needy village people. He established a free school in his village under a trust and encouraged all the people to send their children to school. This deed gave him such peace that he never got in his entire life.
Now you decide that whose activity you will call ‘Success’?? Sam or Jack???
