Phonics turns letters into laughter and stories into smiles.

A Phonics Workshop for the parents of Grade 1 and Grade 2 students was successfully held on 16th April 2025 at CIDER International School. The session was conducted by Miss Fahima Kanij and Miss Tapati Bhattacharjee, who guided the participants through an insightful and an engaging journey into the world of phonics.

The workshop aimed to familiarize parents with the phonics teaching strategies used at school, helping them to better support their children’s early literacy development at home. Miss Fahima and Miss Tapati shared key concepts related to phonemic awareness, blending, segmenting and decoding strategies, using interactive demonstrations and practical examples.

Towards the end of the session, a lively question and answer segment allowed parents to express their queries and gain further clarity. This was followed by a hands-on activity where parents enthusiastically participated in identifying phonetic sounds and practicing segmentation techniques, mirroring the classroom experience of their children.

The session was well-received and parents appreciated the opportunity to be actively involved in their child’s learning process. Overall, the workshop strengthened the collaboration between home and school, reinforcing the foundation for early reading success.

Together, parents and teachers can give every child the gift of reading.
