The Inter-school English debate competition was held in majestic manner at the multi-purpose hall on 5 November, 2018. A total of seven schools together with fourteen participants participated in the contest which commenced at around 10 o’clock in the morning. The debate topic was in keeping with the restless times we live in and the way our youngsters are being influenced negatively by the social media. The topic was: “ Virtual world is making the youth unsocial”
The dignitaries that graced the occasion were : Mr. Shabbir Chowdhury, President of the Rotary Club of Chittagong was the chief guest. Mr. Bijoy Basak, Deputy Commissioner of Police, CMP, North Zone, Chattogram was the guest of honour.
The judges were, Mr. Sanjoy Das, Assistant Professor, dept. of law, Premier University, Kao Ching Marma, vice-president of Chittagong university Debating society (CUDS) and a national debater and Mrs. Tashkia Zahur Chowdhury, former Executive Director, American School, Chittagong. Apart from that, Mr. Nader Khan, Chairman, board of directors of CIDER International School, Mr. G.C. Tripathi, Principal, CIDER International School, Mrs. Neeti Tripathi, Vice-Principal, Junior Section, were also present on the occasion. The Master of Ceremony was Mr. Suman Chakraborty, Head of dept. of English of Cambridge Senior.
At the onset, the Chief guest, the Guest of Honour and Judges were introduced by the M.C. Then, the participants, participating schools and guest of honours were introduced. Next, the honourable Principal felicitated the guests and the Judges in typical Ciderian tradition. Mr. Nader Khan, Chairman, board of management of CIDER International School felicitated the Chief Guest. Then, our honourable Principal delivered his speech elucidating the new concept conceived by him and stressed on the need of extra-curricular activities. Then, the M.C. read out the rules of debate and the programme kicked off. Fourteen participants made the occasion lively through their battle of wits. It was indeed a spectacle. In addition, the judges and the Chief Guest delivered their respective speeches stressing on the need of debate in our lives.
CIDER International School clinched the title once again by keeping up with its glorious and enviable track record. The best speaker winner award both for and against the motion went to Syeda Adiba Bushra and Ramisa Malyat of CIDER International School (Cambridge Curriculum). The programme was rounded off with the prize distribution ceremony .
