Hi there! I’m Kamre Noor. I’m 11 years old. I know exactly how young learners can get interest during classroom teaching. Let me have this opportunity to share my thoughts and views on how people like me, the 4th or 5th graders, can take highest interest in their everyday classes.
It was Elmwood Primary School, based in South Woodham Ferrers, Chelmsford, Essex, UK; where we always used to be encouraged to learn independently. I was the 5th grader over there and it was very close to my parent’s workplace named William De Ferrers School. I used to walk to school with my parents. And it used to be a very enjoyable walk on the pavements observing the blooming flowers and houses, nice and neat, sometimes, with elderly women as well as youngsters with cute and playful puppies. My parents used to drop me in front of the school gate. We used to be given a food menu at the end of every week. The menu consisted of with vegetarian, meat and jacket potato options. I always used to choose the Jacket Potato option. Our classes used to be very decorative, as well as our lessons. My most favorite lesson used to be the math lesson. I can still recall my memory of having Geometry lessons that used to be very interesting as well as challenging. For Example, while we were learning the Angles, we were all given a paper with a protractor drawn on it, and we were asked to draw an angle of the mentioned degrees. It was really an interesting task. And, we used to do the corrections by ourselves. If the answer was correct, we simply used to put a tick mark with a pink coloured pencil and if it was incorrect, we used to put a green dot beside our answer and then used to write the correct answer in green. At the end, we were asked to write how we thought we were doing in a particular chapter. If it was negative, we used to write our weakness in green and if we were confident we used to write it in pink. We had smart boards in our classroom and the teachers were extremely kind. Our class teacher was Mrs. Lovett. She used to take care of all the subjects. And the best part was that our education was framed in such a way, that we were never been given any homework! All our studies were done during school time and at home we considered it as family time. Our snacks given by the school used to be very delicious. After snack time, we used to play soccer under a very renowned certified coach. I had several friends there. They used to be all British, but we were so good friends that we were never been bothered to notice any difference among ourselves. I used to be the only Asian in my class but all my classmates, along with the teachers, used to treat me like everyone else which made our bond even stronger. And then, after all our lessons, we used to walk back to our home-sweet-homes.
Here in CIDER, I’m equally enjoying my time with all my friends, singing our National Anthem proudly every morning, and celebrating national days like Ekushe February, Pohela Boishak, Victory Day that I never experienced in Elmwood, in the UK. I’m proud and happy to see that CIDER is growing up and I’m deeply grateful to my teachers who are working hard to make lessons interesting for us. I believe that our teachers here can be able to read our minds and therefore, can make the lessons more challenging, interesting, and enjoyable.
Thank you
