21st of February, International Mother Language Day. One of the most memorable day in the history of People’s Republic of Bangladesh. In this day of 1951, when West Pakistan was imposing Urdu as a national language even in East Pakistan, the people of East Pakistan protested against this proclamation. To approve Bangla as national language of East Pakistan, people of all stages stood up in Language Movement. Movement was unstoppable. To control the situation police fired to a student march. In this fusillade 6 students died. They sacrificed their life for the sake of mother tongue. From that day, they have been commemorated as language martyrs and 21st February has been observed as Sokh Dibos in Bangladesh. In 1999, UNESCO declared 21st February as International Mother Language Day. At present worldwide almost 193 nations are observing International Mother Language Day. In sequence of history, as one of the best English Medium School in Chittagong, Cider International School observed 21st February with great respect and gratitude to the martyrs. Whole school campus was decorated nicely with the Bengali Alphabets. Program started at 9 o clock through putting flowers in the Martyrs Memorial. All the teachers and administrative staffs wore white Panjabi and black and white Sharee. In the beginning, Chief Guest Mr. Nader Khan and Honorable Principal Mr. G C Tripathi delivered inspirational speech. There were a lot of events such as poetry recitation, song, dance, drama. Student participation was wonderful in all events. A huge number of parents came to observe 21st February as well as to enjoy the program. Program ended at 11 with the National Anthem.
